Bangladeshi Academic Calls For Nuclear Treaty With Pakistan To Counter Indian Influence

DHAKA – As Pakistan, and Bangladesh are taking measures to reset frosty ties after Hasina Wajid’s ouster, a Bengali Professor suggested nuclear treaty between Islamabad and Dhaka tob counter India’s increasing influence in the region.

Professor Shahiduzzaman from Dhaka University called for a nuclear treaty between Asian nations, expressing concerns about New Delhi’s aggressive moves in South Asia.

The senior educationist believes that such an agreement could bolster Bangladesh’s national security and deter potential threats from India. In his statements, Shahiduzzaman suggested that the deployment of Ghauri missiles in North Bengal could enhance the country’s defense capabilities and counterbalance India’s military strength.

“We must explore all options to protect our sovereignty in this shifting geopolitical environment,” he said. This proposal has sparked significant debate within Asian region.

Amid these reports, geopolitical analysts said it could have repercussions, particularly from Washington and its allies, who generally oppose nuclear expansion.

As the discussion unfolds, the implications of this proposal for Bangladesh’s diplomatic relationships and regional stability remain to be seen. The call for a nuclear treaty has opened an important dialogue on national security and the future direction of Bangladesh’s foreign policy.

Pakistan is currently seeking to improve ties with Bangladesh, believing many Bangladeshis harbor goodwill towards Pakistan. The political landscape in Bangladesh is divided, with pro-India and anti-India factions, particularly the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.
