KINGSTON – Seasoned cricketer Younis Khan became the first Pakistani batsman in Test cricket history to complete 10,000 runs here on Sunday.
Younis, who is also termed a ‘Run machine’ for green Shirts, made history as he crossed his 23rd run during first innings of Pakistani side in the first test match against West Indies.

Overall, he is the 13th batsman in Test cricket to make 10,000 or more runs. Earlier, three Australians – Ricky Ponting, Allan Border and Steve Waugh – three Indians – Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar – two West Indians – Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul – and two Sri Lankans – Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene – crossed this coveted milestone along with Jacques Kallis of South Africa and Alastair Cook of England.
Younis Khan, the highest runs scorer for Pakistan is followed by Javed Miandad with 8832 runs and Inzamam Ul Haq with 8829 runs.
Broadening the spectrum, Master Blaster ‘Tendulkar’ of India is the top scorer for the most prestigious format of cricket with a staggering 15,921 runs in a record 200 Test matches.

But zooming into Green Shirts, Younis Khan is one of the few players with a matchless consistency. His highest score in current 116 Tests is 313 against Sri Lanka in February 2009. Moreover, he was the third Pakistani to hit a Test triple century, after Hanif Mohammad (337) and Inzamam-ul-Haq (329).
The 37-years-old Younis played 264 matches in an ODI career that spanned 15 years. With 7240 runs, Younis is currently sixth on the list of highest run-getters for Pakistan in ODIs.

He thanked his friends and fans and credited the performance to his late father, mother and Bob Woolmer.
Soon after Younis joined 10000 runs club, cricketing Luminaries including Ramiz Raja, Sikander Bakht and Shoaib Akhter lauded the illustrious career of Khan.
It bears mentioning that Younis Khan has already announced retirement from International cricket and he also rubbished rumours of reconsidering the decision.
“Even if I score a century in every innings of the test series, I will not take back my decision of retiring from international cricket,” Khan said.
“I made the decision after a lot of thinking,” he added.
