MULTAN – The Muhammad Nawaz Shareef University of Agriculture (MNSUA) has been closed for two days in response to protests following the tragic death of a 21-year-old female student, Minahil, who was killed in a bus accident on Monday.
Minahil, a fifth-semester student in the Department of Biochemistry, was struck by a university bus while riding her motorcycle. According to police reports, the accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. when she lost control of her bike after spotting the approaching bus. Eyewitness accounts suggest that Minahil was riding at a high speed, and despite the bus driver, Aamir, being suspended pending an investigation, university officials have indicated that he may not be at fault.
In the aftermath of the incident, students gathered in large numbers outside the university, expressing their grief and frustration with slogans aimed at the university administration. Many students have demanded accountability and improved safety measures on campus to prevent future accidents.
A spokesperson for the university expressed deep sorrow over Minahil’s death, stating that the decision to close the campus was made out of respect for the deceased student. “We are mourning the loss of a bright young life, and the university community stands in solidarity with her family during this difficult time,” the spokesperson said.
Police investigations revealed that Minahil’s father had initially chosen not to file a complaint regarding the accident. However, the police indicated that if a formal application is submitted, they would proceed with further inquiries.
The university administration confirmed that CCTV footage of the accident had been reviewed by Minahil’s parents, leading to the father’s acknowledgment that the bus driver was not at fault. Notably, it has been reported that Minahil was involved in a separate motorcycle accident in the Kent area just a month prior, which resulted in significant injuries.
As the university grapples with this tragic event, students continue to call for enhanced security measures to ensure safer travel on campus and surrounding areas, emphasizing the need for accountability from university officials.
