ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s foreign affairs adviser Sartaj Aziz on Saturday hinted at the reopening of Pak-Afghan border in a day or two.
Aziz said this as he briefed newsmen about ECO Summit scheduled to be held in Islamabad expressing that most of the member states except Afghanistan have already confirmed their participation in the Summit.
‘There is no threat to the 13th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit’ assured Sartaj Aziz.
Detailing about the agenda of the summit, he said that areas of connectivity, trade, energy, tourism, investment, industry, economic growth, productivity, social self-aware and environment would come under discussion.
It is relevant to mention that Pakistan sealed Pak-Afghan border at Torkham on February 16 following the deadly blast at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.
Earlier today, Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Omar Zakhilwal expressed hope that Pak-Afghan border would be reopened in three to four days.
Zakhilwal posted a statement on his official Facebook page Saturday and said: ‘The countrymen should avoid travelling to Pakistan even once the border is open’.
On the other hand, Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said that the decision regarding reopening of the Pak-Afghan border will be taken in due course of time.
