Asif Zardari, Shujaat Hussain brainstorm over grand opposition alliance to trap govt

KARACHI – Co-Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday met PML-Q chief Shujaat Hussain and agreed to form a grand anti-government alliance in order to give the federal government a tough time.

Both the leaders agreed to continue contacts in future, and deliberated over the four demands of Pakistan Peoples Party as the deadline set by Bilawal ends on Tuesday (tomorrow).

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain appealed to all the opposition parties to unite on a one-point agenda for a national cause.

According to reports, the former president expressed that his party would now focus on Punjab for amassing public support while Shujaat Hussain invited Zardari at his Lahore residence.

The meeting was attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah.

Meanwhile, talking to media during a visit to Mazar-e-Quaid following the founder’s birth anniversary, Zardari said that he travelled following the directions of his doctors, adding that he had received medical treatment from London, US and Dubai.

Zardari said Pakistan was strengthening with every passing day and requested all to stay optimistic.

It should be mentioned here that law enforcement agencies (LEAs) raided the house of Anwar Majeed, a close aide to Zardari in the early hours of Sunday and recovered huge cache of arms from his house.

After visiting Mazar-e-Quaid, he went to Jinnah Hospital to meet Dr Asim, who is under treatment. Zardari also presented a bouquet to the PPP leaders and inquired about his health.

Asif Zardari has returned to Pakistan after ending 18 months long self-exile and it is expected that he would be taking potshots at the PML-N led government sporadically in future.

He is to address a mammoth crowd on December 27, at the death anniversary of slain PPP leader Benazir Bhutto and that speech would determine the future course of politics for PPP as Bilawal has already threatened the government to accept his four demands by the same date.
