Mina stampede update: List of 36 Pakistani Haj pilgrims confirmed dead

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Federal Ministry for Religious Affairs has confirmed that at least thirty six Pakistani Haj pilgrims lost their lives in Thursday’s deadly stampede in Mina which resulted in death of more than seven hundred pilgrims.

According to the ministry funeral prayers of around a dozen Pakistanis will be offered on Monday in different graveyards of Makkah.

More than one hundred Pakistanis still remain missing following the tragedy while another 235 displaced pilgrims contacted Pakistan Haj Mission in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

Earlier Pakistani ambassador to Saudi Arabia Manzoorul Haq told media that death toll of Pakistani Haj pilgrims in Mina stampede had risen to 18.

In a statement he said most of the Pakistani pilgrims who embraced martyrdom in the deadly incident have been identified. “Not so many Pakistani pilgrims were present at the site of the incident,” he added.

Haq said 86 missing Pakistani pilgrims were found on Friday while another 90 pilgrims contacted Pakistani Haj mission on Saturday.

Initially Pakistan’s foreign ministry had released details of nine Haj pilgrims who embraced martyrdom in Mina stampede.
