Work on about 900KM fence along Pak-Afghan border completed: ISPR

RAWALPINDI – Director General Inter-Services Public Relations Major General Asif Ghafoor has said that work on about nine hundred kilometer fence along the Pak-Afghan border has been completed, the Radio Pakistan reported.

He was briefing local and foreign media representatives at Ghulam Khan, North Waziristan, who visited Miranshah and other parts of the tribal district along with him for the first time after military operations.

The DG ISPR said the full project is expected to be completed next year that would cost about seventy billion rupees. He said besides fencing, the project also includes gadgets and surveillance equipment to keep strict vigil on illicit movement from across the border.

Major General Asif Ghafoor said the fence has amply helped to check the movement of terrorists from across the border and it would further assist after completion of the project.

Earlier, briefing the media representatives at Corps Headquarters Peshawar, Commander 11 Corps Lt Gen Shaheen said after the end of war in the area, the troops are now in the process of consolidation.

He said ninety five percent work of resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons has already been accomplished.

He said following the operation against militants, there is no “No Go Area” in the erstwhile FATA.

The media representatives lauded Pakistan Army’s efforts for restoring peace and development in North Waziristan. They appreciated security forces for undertaking the difficult task of fencing Pak-Afghan border.
