Unable to put the house in order, admits CJP Nisar openly

ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has admitted his failure to bring the house in order as head of an institution to ensure speedy justice.

The top judge while hearing a petition seeking fresh rules for curbing delays in dispensing justice acknowledged, “I admit openly that I have been unable to put the house in order”.

The petition was jointly moved by young lawyers named Umeer Ijaz Gilani, Attaullah Hakeem Kundi, Muhammad Haider Imtiaz, Raheel Ahmed and Hadiya Aziz.

Heading the four-member bench, the CJP also asked the Balochistan High Court (BHC) and other respondents in the petition to submit their replies.

Keeping in view the significance of the issue, the chief justice hinted at forming a larger bench to hear the petition.

During the hearing, the chief justice also talked about his visit to Larkana district courts. He said that Additional District and Sessions Judge Gul Zamir Solangi, who was slammed by the top judge for having the mobile phone in the courtroom, decided only two bail pleas during the entire day and the orders yet to be dictated.

However, the Karachi Bar Association has passed a strong resolution against the conduct of the chief justice and said that his behaviour with judges of the lower courts should not resemble a police officer disciplining an errand boy or a landlord with his sharecropper.
