Tyrian White issue: Justice Siddiqui removed from bench hearing disqualification plea against Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD – The composition of a  bench set to hear a disqualification petition against the in-waiting prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, Imran Khan, has been changed.

The case was, earlier, being heard by a bench, comprising Justice Shaukat Azizi Siddiqui and Justice Amir Farooq. However, Justice Siddiqui has been removed from the bench and replaced with Justice Mian Hassan Aurangzeb.

Earlier, the former bench had sought a reply from the PTI chairman till August 1 while hearing a case filed by former Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry against Imran Khan.

The former CJP had moved the court, seeking disqualification of Khan in line with the provisions of Article 62 for lying about his alleged daughter Tyrian White. He claimed that Khan was not sadiq and ameen.

On July 27, White also dished in on the electoral victory of the cricketer-turned-politician. In a brief commentary on the microblogging site, White quoted the congratulatory tweet of Jemima Goldsmith and merely posted a heart emoji.

The issue of Tyrian White was also taken up by Pakistan’s former Chief Justice, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, to challenge Khan’s candidacy, however, the election tribunal did not entertain his charge.

Imran Khan only acknowledges his two sons, Sulaiman and Qasim who occasionally visit him at the Bani Gala residence and are likely join him for the inauguration ceremony, expected in the next few weeks.

The senior judge of the Islamabad High Court, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, once again made headlines on Saturday by criticising the alleged meddling by Pakistan’s premier spy agency – the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) – in judicial affairs.

Accusing the secret agency of ‘manipulating’ the judicial bodies and the constitutional courts, the judge claimed that he was conveyed that all references against him would be removed if he accepted the terms.

“We are not independent and our institution is in the hands of those carrying guns,” he told a gathering of lawyers from Rawalpindi Bar Association.
