KARACHI – At least 11 people, including a child died in rain-related incidents so far after a heavy downpour continues to lash the city since Wednesday night, local media reported.
Following a strong spell of rains which hit Pakistan’s coastal areas including major cities of Sindh raising the risk of urban flooding, traffic system is disrupted as roads are tuned into ponds due to poor sewerage system.
Many areas including North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Orangi, Malir, Drigh Road, and NIPA are submerged due to heavy rain.
The citizens of the metropolis are also facing hardships due to electricity failure as 79 feeders of K-Electric have tripped so far.
According to local media, most of the people died of electrocution in different areas of Karachi, while two other lost their lives in different rain related incidents.

On the other hand, the Sindh education department has announced to close schools across the province, while private schools association has also made a same announcement.
The low-pressure system moving in from the South East is expected to bring over 40mm of rainfall coupled with winds as high as 60 kilometres per hour, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
According to PMD, the weather system is going to affect the country’s south from Wednesday night till Friday after which the focus will shift to the northern region and will continue till Sunday.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has also issued multiple warnings directing all land departments to take ‘precautionary measures’ to avoid any untoward situation and make sure the response mechanism is adopted.
There have also been chances of isolated heavy to more heavy falls in lower Sindh, including Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad and Karachi divisions, on Wednesday.
Experts warn the heavy rains may cause urban flooding in Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas on Wednesday and Thursday and flash flooding in the vulnerable nullas and streams of eastern Balochistan.
