LAHORE – An accountability court in Lahore extended the remand of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother Salman Rafique for 15 days.
Khawaja brothers, who are currently in the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) custody in the Paragon Housing Society scam, were presented before the NAB court amid tight surveillance on Saturday.
During the hearing, NAB officials tried to seek an extension in the remand of PML-N leaders while their counsel opposed it.
The NAB court announced its verdict that the politicians be presented before it again on January 5th.
Khawaja Saad Rafique was shifted to Lahore by a NAB team after he attended the session of National Assembly. Speaker Asad Qaiser had issued production order for him.
NABÂ had arrested the duo on December 11 after the Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected their request for an extension in their interim bail in the case pertaining to the housing society scam.
NAB Lahore had issued a press release after the arrest stating that “accused Saad Rafique along with his benamidaar wife Ghazala Saad Rafique, brother Salman Rafique in association with Qaiser Amin Butt and Nadeem Zia established a housing project in the name of Air Avenue which was converted into a new housing project namely M/S Paragon City Pvt Limited. Record shows that M/S Paragon City is an illegal society.”
“Accused has been and is continuously obtaining illegal/ illegitimate funds/ benefits from said project as he obtained 40 kanal plots in his own name and the name of his brother Salman Rafique,” the bureau said.
Speaking on the floor of the House on Friday, Saad Rafique had expressed that the attitude of NAB towards him was good.
He, however, lamented that the bureau officials inquired him about Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Aleem Khan to which he replied that he was not an informer.
