SC dissolves Punjab Healthcare Commission board, issues notice to Dr Yasmin Rashid

LAHORE – The Supreme Court on Tuesday dissolved newly constituted Board of Commissioners, Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC), and issued notices to the Punjab health minister, chief secretary and others.

The bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar passed the orders while hearing the matter regarding the constitution of Board of Commissioners, Punjab Healthcare Commission, here at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

During the hearing, the chief justice expressed annoyance over appointing the members of the board without approval of the court. The bench had ordered to present the names of proposed new members but the notification was issued without taking approval, he said, adding that it was a clear contempt of the court. He observed that again such persons were made members of the board who were ineligible for the purpose.

Subsequently, the bench dissolved the newly constituted board and issued notices to the provincial health minister Dr Yasmin Rashid, chief secretary, additional secretary health and sought reply in two days.

It is pertinent to mention that the Supreme Court had dissolved Board of Commissioners, Punjab Healthcare Commission on November 17 while ordering the formation of new board.
