FM Qureshi discusses bilateral ties with Omani counterpart in Muscat

OMAN – Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi held a meeting with his Omani counterpart, Yusuf bin Alawi in Muscat on Wednesday.

Radio Pakistan reported that Qureshi and Oman’s Minister of Royal Office General Sultan bin Mohammed al-Naamani discussed bilateral ties, latest situation of the region and international issues. Both sides reviewed the ways to increase mutual cooperation in various sectors.

The ministers discussed matters of mutual interest and regional security. They also reaffirmed brotherly ties between Pakistan and Oman. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi dilated upon the policy of Prime Minister Imran Khan for creating exemplary relations with the neighbouring countries.

He said a Senate Friendship Group will be made active to increase people to people contacts between both the countries. The two Foreign Ministers also held talks at the delegation level. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi also invited his Omani counterpart to visit Pakistan.

During his visit, Qureshi will represent the Pakistani delegation in a meeting of Pak-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission. He is also expected to hold meetings with Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said and other high-ranking officials.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi was received by Oman’s Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah upon his arrival in Muscat on Tuesday.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi is on an official two-day visit to Muscat and is leading a 12-member delegation of technical experts representing sectors of bilateral cooperation falling under the purview of Joint Commission whose 7th Session will be co-chaired by the two Foreign Ministers tomorrow followed by signing ceremony of bilateral Accords.

According to the Radio Pakistan, the foreign minister will also meet the Pakistani community in Oman. Before departing for Muscat, the foreign minister in a statement had said that he would take Oman’s leadership into confidence regarding the situation in Afghanistan.
