Pakistan achieves UN target of female deployment in peacekeeping operation

LAHORE – Pakistan has achieved the goal of deployment of 15 per cent female staff officers in the United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Missions on Wednesday.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal has announced the achievement in his tweet today.

He expressed the views that “Pakistan is proud to have achieved the goal of deployment of 15 per cent female staff officers in UN Peacekeeping Missions, thereby meeting the benchmark set by the UN”.

The United Nations set a target of deploying 15 per cent female military and staff officers in peacekeeping missions in line with efforts to enhance women’s participation.

The UN Department of Peace Operations is leading 14 peacekeeping missions across the globe, half of which are stationed in Africa.

Pakistan is known for its remarkable contribution to UN peacekeeping missions around the world, as the Pakistan Army has the third most number of soldiers in UN Peacekeeping Missions.

Peacekeeping, as defined by the United Nations, is a way to help countries torn by conflict create conditions for sustainable peace.
