Only one Indian pilot under Pakistan Army’s custody: DG ISPR

RAWALPINDI – Pakistan’s military spokesman on Wednesday evening confirmed that there is only one Indian pilot in the army’s custody after his plane was shot down by Pakistani fighter jets for violating its airspace.

Wing Commander Abhi Nandan of Indian air force (IAF) is being treated as per norms of military ethics, said Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) director general Major General Asif Ghafoor in a tweet (along with a picture of the captured pilot).

Hours after his arrest, a video of the Indian pilot was released by Pakistan army. Having a cup of tea in his hand, the safe and sound Abhi Andan thanked Pakistan Army for their professional and moral behavior and military norms.

In the video, released after Maj-Gen Asif Ghafoor concluded his press conference, the arrested Indian pilot said that ‘Pakistan Army has looked after me very well.’ ‘They are all thorough gentlemen,’ he continued.

The captured Indian pilot went on to say that “I would not change my statement if I go back to my country.”

Abhi thanked the Pakistan Army captain and soldiers for saving his life from an angry mob who gathered at the crash site. “I am very impressed by the Pakistani Army and I would like to say Pakistani soldiers must be treated in the same way [with respect and dignity].”

When asked for more details regarding his mission, the arrested pilot politely refused to say anything further with an apology to the Pakistani army officers.

Earlier, Director General of Inter Services Public Relations Major General Asif Ghafoor also stated that the detained fighter pilot was being treated according to Geneva Convention.
