Thousands of Pakistanis pay tribute to Christchurch victims by forming human image of Al-Noor mosque

JHANG – At least 2000 Pakistanis gathered in Jhang on Friday to form a human chain of Al-Noor mosque in Christchurch to pay tribute to the victims of the deadly attack on March 15.

Drone images showed worshippers clad in white shalwar kameez and prayer caps, stood together in the gardens next to Hazrat Sultan’s shrine in Jhang to make a human image of Al-Noor Mosque, Christchurch, while the second group of people formed the words “Islam is peace” nearby.

The flags of New Zealand and Pakistan were also displayed above the mosque formation. A huge banner reading “Solidarity with the martyrs of Christchurch from Pakistan” was also placed along the photographs of the victims.

People formed the human image of the mosque and recited Durood and chanted Allah-o-Akbar on the occasion.

The tribute was organised a non-government organisation named Muslim Institute that is aimed at promoting peace and stability in the Muslim world.

The NGO also released the drone footage of the human formation of the mosque.

At least 50 people were killed and dozens of others were left wounded in the terrorism attack at two mosques in New Zealand’s eastern city of Christchurch on March 15, Friday, marking one of the “darkest” days in the country’s history.

Australian Brenton Tarrant, 28, a self-avowed white supremacist, has been charged with 50 counts of murder and 39 of attempted murder after opening fire at Al Noor and a second Christchurch mosque on March 15.

A total of nine Pakistanis were also martyred in the attack, including Naeem Rashid, who was posthumously given an award for bravery by Pakistan after he apparently tried to tackle the gunman before being shot.
