LARKANA – At least 50 HIV positive cases detected in three months in Sindh’s Ratodero district, local media reported on Wednesday.

The kids are aged between eight months to five years, reported Daily Times.

Nazir Shah, father of HIV positive Eman Shah, while talking to the newspaper, said that his daughter was infected from usage of same syringe by the dispensers of the doctors.

He said he is a bank employee and hence can afford the treatment at bank’s expense but those under poverty line are the worst affected. Another person Agha Mirani said his 3-year old son Ghulam Nabi Mirani died due to HIV infected from usage of same syringe.

Patients were unable to get treatment due to poverty, the paper report added.

About 20 HIV positive people expired including Azadar son of Abid Dayo and Tahir son of Moryal Bozdar. Dr Imran Arbani and Dr Muzafar Ghangro told newsmen in Ratodero that during last three months, 15 to 20 positive cases were detected at their private clinics.

On the other hand, Larkana continues to top the list of districts most affected by HIV in Sindh with the number of AIDS patients in Larkana rising to more than 2,400.

AIDS claimed a million lives in 2016, almost half the 2005 toll that marked the peak of the deadly epidemic, according to a UN report published on July 20, 2017.
