MULTAN – Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi expressed on Sunday that whoever comes into power after Indian elections, will not have a soft corner for Pakistan.
Talking to newsmen in Multan, the minister said the new Indian government would have no other option but to sit on the negotiation table with Pakistan; the results of the elections are due on May 23.
On the issue of recently negotiated IMF deal, the minister said the government was not willing to get financial assistance from the international lender but it was helpless.
“The country is facing a shortage of investment. Financial deficit and unemployment are at their peak. The situation is worsening with each passing day,” he detailed.
Reiterating that the previous regimes were responsible for the cash-strapped economy, Qureshi said national kitty was empty and the circular debt of the last five months was Rs806 billion.
Gwadar Attack
On the issue of recent attacks including the storming of PC Gwadar, the minister said anti-Pakistan and anti-CPEC forces were behind the latest incidents of terrorism.
“Some forces do not want stability in Pakistan and others don’t want to see the CPEC project moving forward,” he highlighted.
The foreign minister said unlike others Pakistan does not issue irresponsible statements.
“We do not want to say anything without investigation that’s why we are not hurling allegations against India,” he said.

On the issue of creation of South Punjab province, Qureshi said Rs680 million is being allocated for the establishment of South Punjab secretariat which will be made operational from the incoming fiscal year onwards.
