ISLAMABAD – The National Security Committee has reiterated that Pakistan shall continue all its efforts towards regional peace and stability.
The forum, which met in Islamabad on Wednesday with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair, also discussed and fully supported ongoing efforts towards a sustainable and lasting resolution of country’s economic issues.
The meeting was attended by Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, Interior Minister Ijaz Ahmed Shah, Law Minister Mohammad Farogh Naseem, Minister for Kashmir Affairs & GB Ali Amin Gandapur, Finance Adviser Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan, Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, DG ISI Lt Gen Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah, and senior civil and military officers.
In a separate session, the forum discussed Gilgit-Baltistan reforms.
PM Imran directed that the aspirations of people of Gilgit-Baltistan especially the youth must be given preeminence during the decision making process.
Reports in local media said the participants also brainstormed on tensions between Tehran and Washington, Afghan Peace Process as well as border security.
The huddle comes days before Iranian Foreign Minister’s expected visit to Islamabad wherein he would enlist the support of Islamabad in the ongoing tension in the Gulf.

Mohammad Javad Zarif would call on senior civil-military leaders during his stay in Pakistan ahead of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s two-day summit in Makkah; Prime Minister Imran Khan would tour Saudi Arabia for the session.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump warned that war would be ‘end of Iran’.
On the other hand, Iran’s foreign minister insisted on Saturday that there was no appetite for war.
“There will not be a war since neither we want a war nor does anyone have the illusion they can confront Iran in the region,” Mohammad Javad Zarif told state news agency Irna.
