HYDERABAD (Staff Report) – Unidentified assailants on Monday shot dead police sub-inspector Ishtiaq Awan in Makki Shah area of Hyderabad, four days after he testified against the alleged mastermind of Safoora bus attack Tahir Minhas in another murder case.
According to police officials Awan was targeted by gunmen riding a motorcycle while he was leaving for office.
He received seven bullets in chest, stomach and other body parts and died on spot.
Ishtiaq Awan was investigation officer and a witness against Tahir Minhas and two others in the murder case of Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar.
Tahir Minhas is the alleged mastermind of the terrorist attack on a bus in Karachi’s Safoora Chowrangi area which claimed 46 lives of Ismaili community. He is currently under detention along with his accomplices.
The same group, which also claimed to have been associated with Islamic State (ISIS) group, was behind murder of rights activist Sabeen Mahmud.
Earlier the driver of Sabeen Mahmud was also gunned down in Karachi. He was the sole eye witness to the murder case.
