Real Chand Nawab beaten by Karachi police

KARACHI (Web Desk) – A local TV reporter, who shot to fame after a video clip of his reporting inspired Indian directors to add his role in the film Bajrangi Bhaijaan, was beaten up along with his crew at the Karachi Cantt Station.

Currently working for Channel 92 as a reporter, Chand Nawab made it to the Cantt Station with his team to cover an assignment related to departure of trains at the station, the ARY reported.

He was reportedly covering scalping of train tickets when the railway officials and the police allegedly beat him up and his team members including DSNG driver and engineers.

The channel reported that Sindh Minister Nisar Khuhro has taken notice of the incident and ordered inquiry into it.

However, it could not ascertained whether the reporter overstepped his domain in covering the assignment. The channel administration said it has also brought the incident into the notice of Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique.

Chand Nawab gained public recognition by a video uploaded by his colleagues in 2008. In the video, Nawab tries to record a picture to camera on a stairway at a Railway Station but he gets interrupted by people. The video became viral on social media.

Kabir Khan, the director of the film Bajrangi Bhaijaan, decided to add Chand Nawab’s role in the film. The role was played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. After the release of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Nawab became more famous.

Nawab started receiving job offers and roles in TV commercials from various companies after release of the film.
