ISLAMABAD (Staff report) – While PTI’s allegation of 35-puncture was later turned out to be a ‘political statement’, it has been learnt that the story of 35-stay orders is a fact at least for the moment. More than 35 lawmakers of Pakistan, both members of national assembly and provincial assemblies, are surviving in the parliament on the basis of stay orders from courts.
According to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), out of these 35 MPs, who got special relief from Supreme Court of Pakistan after being unseated by election tribunals, 15 are MNAs while remaining 24 are members of provincial assemblies, i.e. 8 members of the Punjab and Sindh assemblies each, 7 members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly and 1 member of the Balochistan legislature.
These lawmakers include key figures from the PTI, PML-N, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jamiate Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F). Independents also figure among them.
