35.7mmcdf gas reservoir discovered in Thal East-I: Petroleum Minister

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi says two new oil and gas discoveries made by Oil and Gas Development Company Limited will help overcome gas shortage.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, he said the company discovered reservoir of 35.7 million cubic feet per day gas in its Thal East-I concession, which will be added to the system soon.

He said the second discovery of 1,032 barrels oil per day has been made in the company’s Nashpa field in Karak.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the company has set the target of drilling 31 new oil and gas wells in the current financial year.

He said Pakistan Petroleum Limited unearthed 468 barrels oil per day and .617 mmcfd gas in Dhoke Sultan in the Potohar region.

Besides, PPL discovered 56 mmcfd gas in its Gambat South field in Sindh.

To a question, the Minister said domestic gas consumers are the priority, and concerted efforts are underway to overcome the shortage.
