Bilawal Discusses Constitutional Amendment With Fazlur Rehman

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence once again to discuss the constitutional amendment.

This marks Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s second visit to Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s home in the past 48 hours.

During the visit, Maulana Fazlur Rehman warmly welcomed Bilawal and his delegation, which included Khurshid Shah, Naveed Qamar, Murtaza Wahab, and Jamil Soomro. JUI’s representatives included Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, Maulana Abdul Wasi, Maulana Asad Mahmood, Senator Kamran Murtaza, Mir Usman Badini, and Maulana Misbahuddin.

Prior to this meeting, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif before heading to Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence.

The meeting between Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Maulana Fazlur Rehman lasted about an hour. After the meeting, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari left Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence.

In a media briefing, PPP leader Khurshid Shah mentioned that discussions on the constitutional amendment have been ongoing since yesterday, with bills being reviewed. He noted that some elements were removed from the original bills, but they came to discuss the points on which everyone agreed.

Khurshid Shah emphasized that legislation is their right and no one can stop them. They have consulted Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and once an agreement is reached, they will inform the government. He assured that these meetings will continue.

Naveed Qamar added that Maulana Fazlur Rehman attended the special committee meeting yesterday, where it was agreed that the amendments should be brought forward with consensus. The committee agreed to discuss and reach a consensus on the contentious issues.

Qamar further stated that positive discussions took place during today’s meeting and that a national consensus would be reached. The amendment pertains to the establishment of a constitutional court, and Maulana Fazlur Rehman agreed to its formation, though he had concerns about its procedure.
