Chinese Premier Li Qiang Arrives In Pakistan Received By Pm Shehbaz On Red Carpet

ISLAMABAD – Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang arrived in Pakistan on Monday to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. His arrival was marked by extensive security arrangements in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

As the red carpet was rolled out, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally welcomed Qiang at the airport, highlighting the importance of the visit. The summit is expected to address key regional issues and strengthen ties among member countries.

Security personnel were deployed throughout the area to ensure the safety of the leaders attending the summit, reflecting the significance of the event in fostering regional cooperation.

During his visit to Islamabad from October 14-17, 2024, Chinese Premier Li Qiang is expected to finalize several agreements with Pakistan, including a $2 billion loan for the Karakoram Highway and the soft launch of the Gwadar International Airport. His visit precedes a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of Government and aims to reinforce the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) partnership.

Key topics of discussion will include economic and trade relations, various infrastructure projects like the Kohala and Azad Patan Hydropower Projects, and security measures for Chinese workers in Pakistan, especially following a recent attack that killed two nationals. A currency-swap agreement between the central banks is also anticipated. Premier Li will meet with Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Zardari, as well as join other SCO leaders for the council meeting.
