Khawaja Asif: Power generation will reach 31,000 MW by 2018

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif announced on Wednesday that power generation in the country would increase to 31,000 Mega Watt (MW) by 2018 after successful completion of ongoing projects.

Speaking on the floor of the Lower House of parliament, Asif vowed to eradicate load shedding from the country by the end of PML-N’s stint. He said that the demand and supply gap had been reduced to 4000 MW from 7000 MW since had PML-N assumed office.

Presenting the details for ongoing energy projects, the minister said that the 1,320 MW Port Qasim Project would be completed by 2018, Tarbela-4 by June 2017, and Chashma 3 and C-4 Nuclear Power Plant would be completed by June 2016.

He also said the government would complete the 1,320 MW Energy Project in Sahiwal by December 2017, the Engro Thar and other Thar projects by June 2019, and the Nelum-Jhelum Hydro Power Plant and Golan Gol Chitral projects by August 2017.

Khawaja Asif also revealed the amounts in electricity bills for tube-well consumption which remained unpaid.

He went on to claim that the government was ensuring an uninterrupted supply of power during Sehr and Iftar except in areas where power was stolen.
