Panama Papers: ToR committee’s seventh meeting ends in vain

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report/APP) – Deadlock persists between government and opposition over the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the proposed Panama Papers commission.

The seventh meeting of the parliamentary committee held in Islamabad on Friday, in which the committee discussed the salient features of the ToRs and the bill and decided to continue discussion on the matter in the next meeting to be held on the 14th of this month.

The government side circulated among members a document comparing the joint opposition’s original terms of reference with those presented by the government on Tuesday.

The government also circulated amongst members the copy of a bill titled “Commission of Inquiry Act 2016.”

However, after the meeting, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Shah Mehmood Qureshi told reporters that the meeting ended inconclusive.

He claimed that the government side was showing seriousness, adding that the government team wanted to save the prime minister from the inquiry.
