Foreign troops guest house near Kabul under attack; no official report on deaths

KABUL – Several people are feared dead after a huge truck bomb explosion rocked a foreigners’ compound in Kabul near the United States Bagram airbase early this morning.

Following the attack, fighting erupted between Afghan security forces and four attackers.

The targeted compound was used by foreign forces for logistics and residence purposes.

A British news agency said that at least one member of the Afghan forces was killed while three policemen were left injured in the attack. The attackers were also killed in the firing following the blast.

Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack saying that dozens of people have been killed. However, there has been no word about casualties from the Afghan government.

Meanwhile, NATO spokesman in Kabul said that they were reviewing the situation of the attack and would issue a formal statement later.
