UN chief Ban Ki-Moon urges Pakistan-India to engage in dialogue for resolution of conflicting issues

UNITED NATIONS – Outgoing UN chief Ban Ki moon has once again asked Pakistan and India to resolve their differences through the process of dialogue and to exercise restraint.

The deputy spokesperson of UN chief, Farhan Haq while answering a question over tensions between Pakistan and India said UN Chief seeks peaceful resolution of conflicting issue.

“All I can say is the Secretary General has had a very consistent position. One fact we expressed even just last month which is to say that he is following with concern the increase in tensions along the Line of Control and that he urges the governments of India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and encourages them to continue their efforts to resolve their differences peacefully and through dialogue,” Farhan said

In a statement issued last month, Ban had expressed deep concern over the deterioration of the situation along the LoC and called on all concerned parties to prioritise the restoration of calm and stability in order to prevent any further escalation and loss of life.

Tensions between two nuclear-armed neighbours frayed in the aftermath of Uri attack on a checkpost in Kashmir that left 18 people dead. India pointed fingers at Pakistan for the attack, but Pakistan refuted the allegations.

What added fuel to the fire was Indian aggression on Line of Control and claims of conducting a surgical strike inside Pakistan.
