Eminent Pakistani architect Habib Fida Ali passes away

KARACHI – Renowned Pakistani architect Habib Fida Ali died at 82 here on Saturday morning.

The architect reportedly suffered a brain hemorrhage and was under treatment at a private hospital in Karachi.

Fida Ali was one of Pakistan’s most distinguished architects and designed over four decades in Karachi. He was the first Pakistani student to be admitted to Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, from where he graduated in 1962. Habib Fida Ali established his firm ‘Habib Fida Ali Architects’ in 1965.

He was the man behind head offices of National Bank of Pakistan, Sui Southern Gas Company, Faysal Bank and Shell.

In addition, he renovated Mohatta Palace and designed The Forum shopping mall, CAS school and LUMS university in Lahore.

Fida Ali served on the Master Jury for the Agha Khan Award for Architecture and received many awards for his work. He received lifetime achievement award by the Institute of Architects Pakistan.
