Forced marriage: Man confesses to killing his newlywed bride

LAHORE – Murder of newlywed bride, Hira Yaqoob, who was found dead in her room three days after her wedding, has reached a turning point as her husband has reportedly confessed to killing her.

Police sources stated that Umar Tanveer, the deceased’s husband, has confessed that he killed Hira because he did not want to marry her, and was forced into the marriage by his parents.

The police added that further action will be taken against Tanveer after postmortem report and further investigation in the case.

The dead body of the bride has been handed over to her parents. She has been laid to rest after funeral prayers.

On Wednesday (March 17), Hira’s father Muhammad Yaqoob was informed by Tanveer’s parents that she had been found dead in her room.

Yaqoob reached the house located at Samanabad, an area of Lahore and observed marks around her daughter’s neck, and foam coming out from her mouth. He called the police and lodged a case against his son-in-law and his father under section 220/17.
