JHANG – At least three people died after drinking toxic liquor in Bhabharana area of Jhang, local media reported.
According to the police, Riaz, a resident of Faisalabad, went to Jhang to visit his cousin Shabbir where they along with their friends, Arshad Ansari and Azam, allegedly consumed toxic liquor and went unconscious.
One of the victim, Ansari died on the spot while the other three were shifted o the district headquarters hospital where Azam and Shabbir also died. The only survivor, Riaz is also in a critical condition.
The local police taking action apprehended the alleged drug peddler who, they said, had also consumed toxic liquor.
Last year, at least 34 people died after drinking toxic liquor in a Christian Colony area of Toba Tek Singh.
Five suspects had been arrested in connection with the mass poisoning. In police custody, the accused had revealed that they turned aftershave into liquor.
