ISLAMABAD – Punjab Rangers seized a sizable cache of advanced Nato weapons and Indian currency from a housing society in Islamabad during a raid, it emerged on Sunday.
According to media reports, the seized weapons included hand-grenades and explosives which were believed to be used in terror activities across the country.
According to sources, on a tip off, Rangers raided offices of a housing society tucked near New Islamabad airport and seized weapons and Indian currency, worth millions as well.
An illegal firing range probably for training militants was reportedly unearthed in the society that is under development. It was also reported that MQM’s stalwart Haider Abbas Rizvi also lived in the same housing society days before law enforcers searched and sealed its offices.
Reportedly, MQM-London leaders and party’s absconders were provided facilities at the housing society. The CEO of the society had been providing gun training to the party’s office bearers.
Earlier, Rangers and other law-enforcing agencies had conducted a 24-hour long operation in the housing Society’s office and seized modern weapons from the office. The interior ministry also expressed reservations over the action and sought official response as to why a wide-spread search operation was launched in the society.
Property developers in the twin-cities hold the view that due to the prices of plots in the society,that skyrocketed during past few months, a powerful lobby demanded extortion money from the Chief Executive Officer of the society.
