ISLAMABAD – Supreme Court on Thursday suspended the restraining orders issued by Sindh High Court’s (SHC) on entrance of heavy traffic in down town areas of Karachi, local media reported.
Accepting all appeals against the verdict, the apex court remarked that the high court passed an order that is against the earlier verdict announced in 2007. The ban movement is also a violation of fundamental rights, the court added.
Dunya News quoted Karachi Port Trust lawyer as saying, “SC had allowed the entry of heavy traffic in city from 11pm to 6am but SHC completely prohibited it”.
On March 28, the SHC had directed the transport and traffic authorities to ensure that movement of heavy vehicles was not allowed in Karachi at any time, except water tankers or, in special cases, vehicles carrying commodities for daily use.
