No moral justification of summoning Maryam Nawaz: CM Shehbaz Sharif

LAHORE – Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that there was no moral justification for the JIT tasked to probe offshore assets of Sharif family to summon the daughter of the prime minister, Maryam Nawaz.

“We accept the JIT’s privilege to summon any person as a witness but our civilisation teaches us respect for women,” he said in a statement.

Shehbaz Sharif, who also made a maiden appearance before the Joint Investigation Team recalled that Sharif family’s women had been misbehaved with during the Musharraf era but “then there was a non-constitutional and illegal regime”.

He took aim at those quoting the example of slain PPP chairman Benazir Bhutto and comparing it with Maryam’s appearance saying the people had during her tenure picked up his late father forcibly from his office and deprived the old man even of medicines.
