JIT to investigate Lahore Ferozpur Road blast

LAHORE – The provincial government has formulated a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the tragic blast near Lahore’s Arfa Karim Software Park at Ferozepur Road which claimed 26 lives.

The Joint Investigation Team would comprise five members from different departments including Intra Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB) Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Crime Investigation Agency (CIA).

According to a notification issued by Additional Chief Seretary Maj. (r) Azam Suleman Khan on July 25, Mr. Muhammad Iqbal SSP CTD would be the convener of the JIT.

The inquiry panel would submit a report under section 173 of the criminal procedures code, 1898 as required by section 19 (1) of Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

At least 26 people were confirmed dead whereas 56 others were injured when a blast wreaked havoc near the Arfa Karim Tower, Ferozpur Road Lahore on Monday.

The incident raised questions among the law enforcers as to how militants struck the heart of Lahore when para-military troops were engaged in widespread operations across Punjab.
