KARACHI – Twelve people who drowned on Saturday afternoon at Hawkesbay Beach will be buried in city’s Muhammad Shah graveyard here on Sunday after Zuhr prayer.
The dead were identified as Falza 17, Atif 30, Hamza 12, Ebad, 15, Ali 26, Wahaj 28, Umair 30, Ali 25, Saud 50, and Taha 20.
The funeral prayer will be offered at Masjid Babul Islam Sector 9, North Karachi.
Police has beefed up the security to stop picnic goers from going to Hawkesbay and adjacent Sandspit beaches. The road leading the two beaches are being sealed while a ban is also being imposed on swimming and frolicking at the beaches.
Police stopped a large number of picnicgoers from going to beaches this morning resulting in queuing up of vehicles to the entry routes to the two beaches.
It may be mentioned here that in May 2017, the Sindh government imposed Section 144, banning wading/swimming/diving in the sea off the beaches of Karachi for six months with immediate effect.
However, the authorities apparently failed to implement the ban on swimming, which prompted Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah to take notice of mass drowning deaths.
Chief minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah expressing deep sorrow over the drowning deaths of people, who were washed away at Hawkesbay beach while picnicking, and summoned the report from home minister in this regard.
Last month, the son of Saudi vice-council general, along with two other Saudi nationals, drowned near Neelam point at Hawkesbay Beach.
