ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Saturday that if the NAB court orders arrest of former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, then the PML-N-led government would have no option but to implement it.
In an interview to a private channel, the premier while responding to a query regarding arrest orders for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan by Election Commission of Pakistan, said that the orders would be executed.
The question related to the probable arrest orders by National Accountability Bureau of former premier Nawaz Sharif for his absence in corruption references to which Abbasi replied that if court gives such a verdict then it would be implemented too as ‘there was no choice’.
To a question whether Nawaz Sharif would show up on Tuesday regarding references filed by accountability watchdog, Abbasi replied that his lawyers were representing him and the bureau could call the former Prime Minister if deemed it necessary.
The legislator, however, called for opting a single yardstick by the NAB and other institutions to handle the cases of his boss Nawaz Sharif and others.
Abbasi claimed that Nawaz Sharif was now stronger than before his disqualification in his party as well as in the country.
He brushed aside the rumors regarding an internal split between the members of the ruling party while taking the stance that he was the sole candidate of the party for the top post.
When asked whether Finance Minister Ishaq Dar should tender his resignation owing to the corruption references filed against him, the premier replied that it was not necessary as Ishaq Dar would be facing the allegations.
About his upcoming visit to the United States, he said it would be mainly to attend the UN session; however, on the sidelines, he would meet some leaders, besides an interaction at the Council of Foreign Relations.
‘Meeting with US President Donald Trump was not on the cards,’ he declared.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi arrived in London on Saturday evening to meet former premier Nawaz Sharif from where he will be heading to New York to attend the 72nd session of United Nations General Assembly.
