NEW YORK – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Thursday called on United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The two figures discussed the situation in Afghanistan and ceasefire violations by India. The Prime Minister also handed a dossier on human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK) to the UN secretary general.
He also demanded the appointment of a special UN envoy for occupied Kashmir, reported Radio Pakistan. On the occasion, Guterres said that he holds Pakistan very close to his heart and acknowledges its efforts against terrorism.
PM Abbasi will address the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York tonight. The Prime Minister will enunciate Pakistan’s position on key international issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
He will inform the world body about Pakistan’s successes in the economic field and in fighting terrorism and extremism.
The Prime Minister will apprise the international community of Pakistan’s successes in pursuing its economic and development objectives and highlight its commitment to peace and security in the region.
PM’s address to the UN General Assembly will be broadcast live from New York by Radio Pakistan’s News and Current Affairs Channel, FM 101 and FM 94.
He has so far held key meetings with a number of world leaders during his stay in New York. These included calls on United States Vice President Mike Pence, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan among others.
