ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Senator Aitzaz Ahsan has called for the inclusion of the name of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the Exit Control List (ECL).
Talking to newsmen, the legislator expressed that it would be a double standard if Sharif’s name is not placed on the ECL.
According to Aitzaz, the travel embargo would be a major test for the recently appointed chairman of the National Accountability Bureau, Javed Iqbal.
Commenting on the entry of Maryam nawaz in politics, Aitzaz said that she was playing on the front foot.
He added that Maryam Nawaz was successful in protecting the party, though she ignored the verdict of the top court.
On the other hand, Sindh Minister for Industries and Trade, Manzoor Wassan predicted that if Nawaz Sharif returns home, he might not be able to leave.
Aitzaz is not the first one seeking travel restrictions for embattled Sharif, currently residing in London as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry also desired the same.
In a media interaction outside the Supreme Court a few days back, Chaudhry said the frequent travel of the former prime minister was delaying the corruption proceedings against him.
Nawaz Sharif is currently in British Capital, London to inquire after her Lymphoma suffering wife, Kulsoom.
After chairing a high-level meeting of ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz on Monday, the PML-N president clarified that he would be landing back in Pakistan on November 2.
An accountability court in Islamabad is currently hearing the corruption references filed against members of Sharif family including Nawaz Sharif by the national Accountability Bureau.
Sharif is expected to show up before the court on November 3.
