LAHORE – The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to raise its voice against ‘institutions that have crossed limits’, according to local media reports.
The GEO TV quoted sources in the ruling party that a meeting, which continued deliberations for four hours in Lahore on Monday, decided to establish a parliamentary board in the buildup to the 2018 general elections.
Chaired by PML-N President Nawaz Sharif at his Jati Umra residence, the significant meeting was attended by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Governor Punjab Rafiq Rajwana, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah among others.
Those in attendance decided that the PML-N Sindh chapter will boost its contact with the masses and strengthen the party, but distance itself from ‘two political parties’ in Karachi.
The PML-N will also form a board for Senate and National Assembly with an aim to highlight the government’s performance in view of the forthcoming polls.
It was also resolved that ousted premier Nawaz Sharif will begin his campaign to reach out to the masses at the divisional level of the province and address countrywide public gatherings.
However, the report added, a division within the party was noticeable, with some members advocating politics of resistance while others including PM Abbasi, Ahsan Iqbal, and CM Shehbaz stressing that the party should adopt the approach of reconciliation.
A decision to strongly protest against a delay in elections and tampering of the process was also taken in the meeting, the private TV channel reported.
The party also decided that the ‘minus-Nawaz’ formula was unacceptable under any circumstances, the report added.

The corruption cases against the Sharif family were also part of the meeting’s agenda.
In July this year, Nawaz Sharif was forced to resign from office after the Supreme Court declared him unworthy of occupying the country’s highest political office following a probe into his family’s wealth revealed in the Panama leaks. The court also recommended criminal cases against Sharif, his daughter, Maryam, and her husband. The country’s Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar, was also penciled down for prosecution.
