Panama Papers case: NAB records Moonis Elahi’s statement on offshore holdings

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid leader and son of former Punjab CM, Chaudhry Moonis Elahi on Tuesday recorded his statement before the National Accountability Bureau in an inquiry related to offshore companies.

Moonis was directed by the anti-corruption watchdog to appear along with all financial records, as part of NAB’s inquiries against politicians whose names had appeared in the Panama Papers. He was questioned for an hour before he was allowed to leave the office of NAB in Lahore.

Talking to media after recording his statement, he said he would appear before the institutions whenever he is summoned because he has nothing to hide.

In a statement, Monis Elahi said: “I respect the NAB institution. I was called by the NAB today where my name is non-existent in the Panama Papers. I answered all the questions put to me by the NAB team. I will go again if the NAB summoned as I have nothing to hide.”

The bureau has decided to summon all those people who have set up offshore companies.

On January 29, after appearing before NAB, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aleem Khan claimed that his company was not named in the list of offshore companies in the Panama Papers.

The PTI leader has also been facing a probe for his alleged involvement in the Park View Housing Society Lahore scam.
