ECP likely to seek FIA s help for investigating horse-trading in Senate polls

ISLAMABA D- The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has hinted that they might seek help from Federal Investigation Agency and other intelligence agencies to probe alleged horse-trading in the recently concluded Senate elections.

Representatives of different political parties in person or through counsels appeared before a five-member bench of the election regulator on Wednesday to substantiate their claims of horse-trading in March 3 elections for 52 Senate seats.

Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzaib requested ECP to enlist FIA’s help and intelligence agencies for tracing the dubious law makers, who voted differently than their party policy.

To this, Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza clarified that ECP would do that adding ECP wants all the political parties to help the supervisory body in investigating the matter.

“Selling and buying of votes is a serious crime,” he added further.

Shahid Gondal, the counsel for Imran Khan, informed the ECP bench that PTI had already formed a committee to investigate which party lawmakers voted for candidates other than PTI.

“PTI will provide all available proof to ECP,” claimed the lawyer.

The Election Commission of Pakistan had last week issued notices to many politicians who leveled allegations against each other in the backdrop of selling votes in Senate elections.

The commission had summoned several political leaders who had been appearing in the media with allegations of horse-trading, asking them to submit proofs if they had any to bolster their claims.
