PTI leader s unique way of protest against electricity overbilling stuns lawmakers

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member National Assembly Sajid Nawaz Khan on Thursday adopted a unique way of protest against overcharging on electricity bills.

Parliamentarians who were attending the session were shocked when they saw Nawaz, covering with copies of electricity bills. The minister had worn a garland around his neck and a cap, made of electricity bills.

Addressing the session, Nawaz said that he was wearing all those bills in which consumers have been charged for more units than they consumed.

In response to Nawaz’s claims, State Minister of Power Abid Sher Ali slammed PTI leader’s statements and added that electricity theft cannot go unchecked. He said that bill can never be waived off.

The PML-N leader called the way of protest a “drama,” to which all PTI members lodged a protest for using such language.

PTI lawmaker Arif Alvi, later, said that words of “drama” and “electricity theft” should not be made part of the assembly’s proceedings.

To this, the deputy speaker said the word “drama” would be expunged but the word power theft will not be removed.
