Controversial televangelist Aamir Liaquat Joins PTI; social media reacts sarcastically

LAHORE – Controversial Televangelist Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain, who a few days ago hosted a TV show against PTI Chairman Imran Khan for his marriage during Ida‘at, on Monday joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Aamir Liaquat’s decision to join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been nothing less than a shock for many of us, considering that the popular anchorperson had decided to part ways with politics for good last year.

Imran Khan, who had been facing severe criticism from Hussain, welcomed the TV host Aamir Liaquat and another TV actor Abid Ali during a joint news conference in Karachi.

“I welcome Aamir Liaquat on joining PTI. Our party needed Amir Liaquat,” Khan said in his opening remarks, adding that he was surprised at the media’s interest in Aamir Liaquat joining his party. “The People of Karachi should give PTI an opportunity to bring a change in the city. Give us a chance to serve you,” Imran Khan said.

Hussain had parted ways with the MQM after a brief detention at Rangers headquarters in August 2016. He was detained along with nine other MQM leaders after party workers attacked media houses following the party’s supremo Altaf Hussain’s ‘anti-Pakistan’ speech.

Speaking to the media the following day, Aamir said he was fed up with the party and the way it functioned and also announced that he was leaving politics for good.

He was also previously affiliated with the party and had been expelled from MQM in 2008 for violating party policy.

Hussain has been working in the media industry for several years now. In 2001, he joined Geo TV where he hosted Aalim Online, a religious program that gained Hussain a large following.

Over the past few years, Hussain has hosted Ramazan transmissions on both Geo TV and Bol News.

Hussain also runs a current affairs program on Channel 24 called Mere Aziz Hum-watno and has worked with ARY Digital Network, as well.

The social media has yet again found something to talk about and it’s both hilarious and sarcastic.
