ECP bars independent senators from joining PML-N

ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday rejected pleas by 15 independent senators who aimed at joining ranks of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the upper house of the parliament.

Following the ECP’s verdict, the Senate Secretariat has also decided to not allow the merger of independent senators with PML-N.

Now the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has become the largest party in the Senate with 20 members, while PML-N has slipped to the second spot with 17 members while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) retaining third spot with 12 senators.

The number of independent senators stands at 33.
