ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court (SC) will take up separate contempt of court petitions against ex-chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, former prime minister Nawaz and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan on April 4.
The petitions will be heard by a three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar.
Two contempt petitions have been filed by Riaz Hanif Rahi against the former top judge and ex-premier. The application against Chaudhry has been filed regarding the provision of a bullet-proof vehicle.
Senior lawyer Naseer Ahmed Kayani has filed a petition against Imran Khan, accusing him of committing contempt of court by using abusive language against Iftikhar Chaudhry.
Earlier this month, the top court dismissed contempt of court petition against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. Petitioner Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi moved the court to take action against former premier for his anti-judiciary outbursts following his disqualification in Panama case.
To this, Justice Nisar,observed that the limit might not have been crossed in the cited example but hastened to add that the limit might have been crossed on some other instance.
Scraping the petitions, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar remarked that the court did not consider the presented evidence contemptuous.
