LAHORE (Staff Report) – Punjab Home Minister Col.(R) Shuja Khanzada Tuesday said that India’s premier spy agency, RAW, had attempted to sabotage the Zimbabwe cricket team’s tour of Pakistan in May.
Addressing in Punjab Assembly, the minister claimed that the Zimbabwean team manager received threatening message in Dubai ahead of Pakistan-Zimbabwe series, warning him of severe consequences and said that the Zimbabwe team informed Pakistan government regarding these terrifying messages.
“The Pakistani security agencies launched investigation into the matter and found that the Short Message Service (SMS) was sent from one of the Indian intelligence official in Delhi”, he revealed.
Khanzada further claimed the suicide blast outside Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore during a match between the two countries was an attempt by RAW to sabotage the event.
“We foiled RAW’s attempt to abandon Pakistan, Zimbabwe cricket series,” he upheld.
Zimbabwe became the first Test team to tour Pakistan since terrorist attacks on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in March 2009, an incident that had caused suspension of all forms of international cricket in the country.
Although the team lost all the matches but players departed for their country with loads of respect showered upon them by the cricket-lovers in Pakistan.
