NAB unearths suspicion in Saad Rafique s property dealings

LAHORE – National Accountability Bureau Lahore Director General, Shahzad Saleem dropped a bombshell on Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique as he revealed that the property dealings of lawmaker had been found to be ‘suspicious’.

In an interaction with newsmen on Wednesday, the official said that NAB had not leaked any documents regarding any political leader, adding that the accountability watchdog will continue to work earnestly and uncover the truth publically.

To a query regarding former director general Lahore Development Authority Ahad Cheema, Saleem said the suspect has been remanded by the court and is being investigated in multiple cases.

The NAB official continued that after initiating the probe into Paragon Housing Society, the graft-buster found that Cheema and his family members were illegally benefitting from their involvement in a public sector scheme.

“The bank accounts of Ahad Cheema and his family members swelled considerably.” said the DG.

Shehzad also observed that he could not comment on bureau’s ongoing investigations till they are complete, but hastened to add that merit will prevail.

“NAB will continue to work without fear and focus only on cases. We will continue to work hard to achieve results.” he asserted.

Let it be known that NAB is investigating allegations that Cheema, by misuse of authority, awarded a contract of the Ashiana-e-Iqbal housing project of approximately Rs14 billion to Lahore Casa Developers — a joint-venture which was ineligible for the contract.

The NAB had also summoned Saad Rafique and his brother Salman in the ongoing probe, though the firebrand Pakistan Muslim league Nawaz leader claimed before the apex court that he had no link with the Paragon Society.
