ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has summoned a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy to discuss the burgeoning power crisis in Karachi.
The special meeting would be held on April 23 (Monday) to discuss ways for the solution of the ongoing energy crisis in Sindh and especially in the ‘city of the lights’.
The metropolis’ main power supplier, K-Electric, has received a lot of flak for its inefficiency, however, the Chief Minister Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, has deflected the blame, placing it on the federal government.
“When the issue of load-shedding turned serious, [we] approached the prime minister, but he cares not what is happening with Karachi populace,” Shah lamented as he addressed protesters in the city.

Since the last few weeks, Karachi has been facing severe load-shedding after K-Electric said the Sui Southern Gas Company has cut supply and thus it was unable to produce the required amount of power.
On Thursday, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) declared K-Electric responsible for prolonged outages, requesting the federal government not only to provide gas to the power producing utility but also take action against it.
